Labeling fraud in the supplement industry is widespread. In a recent investigation, the New York State attorney general’s office conducted DNA testing on top-selling herbal supplements at four national retailers — GNC, Walmart, Target, and Walgreens — and found that four out of five products contained none of the herbs on their labels. Instead, “the pills labeled medicinal herbs often contained little more than cheap fillers like powdered rice, asparagus and houseplants, and in some cases substances that could be dangerous to those with allergies.”
The United States Food and Drug Administration requires that supplement manufacturers verify their products are safe and accurately labeled but they are exempt from the approval process for prescription drugs and operate largely on the honor system. Currently, supplements are assumed to be safe until proven otherwise and only taken off the market when serious injuries occur.

To minimize the number of products listed in each category on Fullscript, Dr. Sarah may have selected only one size of each supplement. In many cases other sizes are available and can be found by searching for the product by name. Dr. Sarah is still in the process of adding products, so if you are having difficulty finding specific supplements, you can also search alphabetically and by manufacturer, or email her and she will create a customized prescription for you.
